Project Summary
The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT), in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Clark County, City of Henderson, Regional Transportation Commission, and other cooperating agencies are studying potential transportation alternatives to improve 12 miles of Interstate 15 freeway corridor. This southern area of the Las Vegas Valley, between Sloan Road Interchange to Tropicana Avenue Interchange, is commonly referred to as “I-15 South Project”. The project is also studying potential transportation alternatives to improve approximately eight miles of Las Vegas Boulevard, between St. Rose Parkway (SR-146) and Sunset Road.
| The “I-15 South Project” corridor is a southern gateway into the Las Vegas Valley. The existing corridor serves motorists from local and regional areas of Southern Nevada and visitors from California. The characteristics of the existing corridor are changing. This southern section of the Las Vegas Valley is rapidly expanding with new residential neighborhoods, large hotel casinos, high rise condominiums, commercial development and other mixed use communities. This new development will increase travel demand (motorists) to levels beyond the capacity of the current I-15 freeway, Las Vegas Boulevard, and other local streets. This new development also requires additional access to I-15.
